I’d always wanted to combine my two loves – food and photography. But at thirty-two years old, I barely managed to pay the bills working at a bank during the week and photographing weddings every weekend. One day I saw an ad for a photography internship with WNC Magazine. Without thinking about the electric bill, I emailed me resume and cover letter to the editor.
Envisioning assignments photographing the latest restaurant trends around Asheville, I gave the bank my two-week notice. But instead of photographing food, my assignments including tombstones in a local graveyard, an artist who created watercolor collages, and local bike shops that offered beer.
At the end of my three-month internship, I finally landed the assignment I’d been waiting for – snapping shots of salmon and crepes at four different restaurants.
These are two food shots from two lovely Weaverville restaurants. The salmon dish is from Jack of Hearts. The sweet crepe is from Creperie & Cafe.
