They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I’ve come to learn that so is happiness. Joy looks a little bit different for everyone—and every couple. Some couples find their happy place on top of a mountain after a long hike together. Others think strolling downtown together amid the hustle and bustle and fancy restaurants is the most romantic place on earth. As a photographer, I love seeing what sparks happiness in couples and watching their faces light up in the magic of the moment, wherever that may be.

Marc and Alisha live in Lexington, Kentucky and have come to visit The Grove Park Inn several times. It has become a special place for them to get away and focus on their love for each other. This time Marc wanted to make it extra special—they have been together eight years now, and he knew it was finally time to pop the question! He has learned over the years that Alisha is a private person, so he asked for my help to find a perfect location where we could get the views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and also avoid the crowds. After describing the patio at the Inn and how it looks out for miles across the horizon, a perfect shot of the mountains, he knew this was the perfect place to propose to his love!
The moment was perfect. She was surprised, full of emotion, and so very happy! They are the sweetest couple, and I loved capturing this moment for them. We spent some time taking photos of the two gleaming in their happiness, and then they went off for a romantic dinner at the Inn! Congratulations, you two!
