Haiku I Do Small Wedding | Asheville Elopement Photographer

Kate and Stephen tied the knot at Haiku I Do! It was my first time photographing at this venue and it definitely did not disappoint. It was such a fun and cool place to get married. I loved it! Their Officiant, Elope Outdoor’s superstar, Michael, did a fantastic job. It was fun to show up and work together in a non-Elope Outdoor environment. Michael used to be a hairstylist and Kate was a client, so they knew each other before!

 

 

Kate and Stephen had been friends since 2007 and had been dating since 2015. They started working together in fall 2007. He worked in technology, and she worked in fundraising. They became friends, playing company soccer and volleyball together. Over the course of the next 8 years, they changed jobs and came in and out of each other’s lives. In spring 2015, after they both had been separated from their previous spouses, Stephen and Kate reconnected as friends. One day they went on a hike in the snow with their dogs. The next week, they took another hike, and the rest is history.

 

The couple got engaged in Dubrovnik. They said the island was full of rabbits and peacocks. Kate says, “It was magical!” Stephen proposed with his grandmother’s ring, which is almost 80 years old! How special is that?!

 

They chose to get married in Asheville because they both live in and love Asheville. Kate says, “Haiku I Do was a great venue for us because of its Zen garden and natural fee. Nature is Stephen’s church, and it was a nice way to make the ceremony work for both of us. Plus there’s an indoor area in case there’s a blizzard on our wedding day!” I couldn’t agree more! Their wedding really was so fitting for them and absolutely gorgeous. 

 

My favorite part about their wedding day was how happy everyone was. It wasn’t difficult to capture all the smiling faces. I also loved that this was a family wedding which meant kids were invited as well. I could tell everyone was having a blast and laughing constantly.
