I LOVE surprise proposals. I’ve captured quite a few, but I relive the anticipation, surprise, and excitement every single time from my side of the lens. It’s kind of like a really good romantic comedy: you’re familiar with the plot line already, but you’re never exactly sure how it’s going to play out. The emotions, scenery, and personality of the couple make it a different experience and thrill every time.
For this surprise proposal, the hubby-to-be planned it perfectly. Courtney was on a girls’ weekend with her best friend Morgan. You know that ladies always dress to the nines when they’re going out for an evening with their friends, so it was pretty safe to say that she would be dressed for the occasion when the surprise moment came. Sure enough, she looked amazing!
Rob, with a little help from Morgan, planned a special surprise for Courtney on the patio of The Grove Park Inn. They couldn’t have picked a better location. At sunset, the orange glow illuminated the majesty of the Blue Ridge Mountains for a brilliant backdrop, and the patio overlooked the trees and hills laid out before them. In true romance-film fashion, Rob came walking out in a handsome suit and a dazzling ring in-hand to propose. Courtney was shocked (in the best way)! I clicked away, trying to capture every sweet moment of this perfect proposal. It was SO much fun watching everything unfold—definitely one of my favorites!
Afterward, Morgan’s husband showed up as well, and they all celebrated with toasts beneath the sunset. These loving men certainly know how to crash a girls’ trip the right way! For the finale, I captured a few timeless pictures of their silhouettes kissing as the sun faded behind the horizon.
Congrats, Courtney and Rob! Thank you for the pleasure of capturing your amazing story. I loved every minute of it. I wish you both the very best!
